The Department is responsible for the preparation and publication of a revised edition of the Laws of Zambia. It is also responsible for the periodical revision of the Laws of Zambia.

The Department performs the following specific functions:

a)     Preparation of revised editions of the Laws of Zambia;

b)     Preparation for the printing and publication of the Laws;

c)      Preparation of annual supplements to the Laws of Zambia;

d)     Ensuring uniformity and conformity of the Statute book;

e)     Consolidation of same or similar laws and attaching dates that may seem most convenient;

f)      Division of any law whether consolidated or not into parts or other divisions and sections;

g)     Conversion, in any law, sums of money expressed in pounds, shillings and pence to equivalent sums of money in accordance with the provisions of the Bank of Zambia Act; and

h)      Provision of footnotes for amplification of the law.
