Administrator-General And Official Receiver
The Department comprises of two Units, namely Administrator-General and Official Receiver. The Office of the Administrator-General is created under the Administrator-General’s Act Chapter 5 8 of the Laws of Zambia while that of Official Receiver is created under the Bankruptcy Act Chapter 82 of the Laws of Zambia. The mandate of the Department I. To administer estates of deceased persons who die testate or intestate in accordance with the Wills and Administration of Testate Estates Act, Cap 60 and the Intestate Succession Act, Cap 59, respectively. II. To administer estates of persons declared bankrupt under the Bankruptcy Act Chapter 82 of the Laws of Zambia. III. The Official Receiver has the following mandate under the Corporate Insolvency Act No. 9 of 2017: a) To act as Liquidator or provisional liquidator when appointed; b) To supervise Liquidators and Receivers in the country; c) To act as Interim Business Rescue Administrator; and d) To act as Receiver or Receiver Manager when appointed as such. Clientele The clients of the Department are the general public, bereaved families, persons declared bankrupt, creditors and ex-employees of liquidated companies and companies in receivership.
